ISLAMABAD: Deadly 2.5 micron particulate pollution met the World Health Organization (WHO) and NEQS requirements because of the degradation in environmental quality study in the federal capital.
In addition to the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS) of 35 microscopic per meter cube (mg / m3), the latest air quality report released by the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has noted that the World Health Organization (WHO) has not only surpassed the fine matter (2.5 microscope) of 2.5 micrograms 24 hours level of 20 micrograms per meter cube.
The emission rate of 2.5 microns (PM2.5) of particulate matter has reached 35 micrograms / m3 (mg / m3), the maximum ever in the federal capital, allowed amount. A WHO reports indicate a large number of premature deaths caused by air emissions. PM 2.5 is a toxic pollutant that can pass through the bloodstream into human blood.
The average 24 hour total nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and sulphur dioxides (SO2) concentrations of 16.43 micrograms per m3 (mg / m3) and 11.82 mg / m3 respectively, against national environmental quality standards (NEQS) of 80 and 120 mg / m3, according to Islamabad's daily ambient air quality survey, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Calibrated air quality sensors are obtained with accurate measurements at particular positions. Nonetheless, PM2.5 levels at daytime and night hours were somewhat strong while today's federal capital's overall ambient air quality was not cleaner. ISLAMABAD: Roughly 100 civil defense department and internationally-trained fire-brigade workers shamelessly neglect their tasks at a time when the country is in dire need of their services in defiance of the Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation (MCI) and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration.
Today, a source in ICT informed Pakistan that in the last few years 22 civil defense employees have abandoned their task, most of whom are absent to concentrate on their private employment and trade, while the other four work like anything else in the excise and tax department in Islamabad.
The source added that all civil defense personnel are disregarding their responsibilities while the country faces earthquakes because they have a big advantage in the organization that also includes higher levels. In 2009 the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) obtained the strategic order, in cooperation with international partners, of a highly-trained and well-equipped Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) group. Nevertheless, the unit was then moved to the MCI Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate (EDMD), after the CDA & MCI had been disbanded.
In addition to providing the 88-member group with well-fit-out 18-month trainings, the Swiss, British, and Swedish governments funded modern equipment for more than $2 million in 2009, according to the reports. The USAR team was promised to extend its operating capacity to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu and Castle (AJK), during two national exercises on the replicated collapsed structure in 2009, to operate under this guideline.
Contacted, Hamza Shafqat, Commissioner of the Islamabad District (GD), denied claims from sources and said that only 20 Razakars are under civil defence. In addition, the capital has a complete NDMA, EDMD and a department of the fire brigade that completely responds to all calamity in the event of an emergency. Once approached, Zaffar Iqbal, currently the fire department manager, denied such statements and said small teams would be used for specific incidents.
